Curriculum

The curriculum available in Swords Community College will be based on the syllabi of the Department of Education and Skills.  The core subjects are English, Irish, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, CSPE, SPHE and PE.

Options in the early years will be determined by student demand and the range of teaching subjects among staff.  These subjects may include; Art, Technology, Home Economics, Technical Graphics, Business Studies. Alongside this, students will also choose a modern European Language (French or Spanish).  Short courses such as Coding and Performing Arts will also be offered.

As well as the full Leaving Certificate programme, the school will also deliver the new Junior Cycle Framework which places students at the centre of the educational experience enabling them to actively participate in their communities and in society and to be resourceful and confident learners in all aspects and stages of their lives. There is a focus on developing skills needed for life beyond the classroom and on nurturing well-being. Different types of learning will be reported on and there will be an increased focus on the learners developing skills as well as knowledge.

The latest teaching, learning and assessment strategies will ensure a focus on critical thinking, communication and creativity.  Swords Community College will also offer an excellent sports curriculum and many other extra-curricular activities.
